Christmas in Our Iowa The Farmhouse

This is an picture from a Christmas past in our "Parlour" in the turn of the century Victorian Farmhouse.
Every year I try to change our Christmas Place setting. This was the place setting from the Christmas dinner in 2005.

Giant Cinnamon Rolls

Winterset Iowa is the Home to the Northside Cafe. You remember it from the movie.."Bridges of Madison County" where Clint Eastwood had lunch at he counter when Lucy Redfield walked in to a very unfriendly atmosphere.

We ate their for lunch.. They told us about their speciality for breakfast. The Giant Cinnamon Rolls... oh they looked so good maybe another time.

Summer Flowers around the Iowa Farmhouses

Mid summer is usually hot and dry, but this year we've had a lot of rain. Some of my favorite flowers of the summer are hollyhocks, yarrow, red geraniums, and day lilies.

Times Gone By

This is a picture of my Grandparents house with the table set for Christmas dinner. My father believes this pictures was taken in the late 40's. They lived in a real Iowa Farmhouse where everything was homemade and cherished.

I love to collect vintage kitchen wares from the 40's - the 50's.

This stitchery at the top picture..."My Kitchen..My Pride" is so meaningful to the women of that era. They so prided themselves in all their hard work of baking, canning, and making 3 big meals a day all from scratch.

Every Iowa Farmhouse has a rose garden. This year at the Iowa State Fair they were having a rose show. They were all beautiful.

Good Food

I love to take pictures of food. Especially closeups. It's a joke with my family. When we eat at a restaurant on vacation etc. I'm taking pictures of the FOOD!!

My Mother's First Kitchen

This is a picture of my Mother in 1961 in her first kitchen just after my parents were married.

Remeber Oilcloth

Oilcloth was a staple at most Farmhouses. An efficient farm wife would cover her tables

in oilcloth so that it could be easily wiped off and protect the finish of the table. 'They also used oilcloth in their bushel basket, "laundry" baskets.
